Convert French bank statements to Excel or CSV

French banks issue the monthly relevé de compte as a PDF, and exports in CSV, OFX or CFONB depend on the bank and account type. BankConv converts relevé PDFs into Excel, CSV, Google Sheets or OFX, one row per transaction, which you can import into Pennylane, Cegid, EBP or a spreadsheet.

Not on the list? Upload the statement anyway: BankConv reads any statement's transaction table, not a fixed set of layouts.

How French bank statements work

The relevé de compte is usually monthly and delivered as a PDF in the online banking space. Transaction exports exist but vary a lot.

  • CSV: most banks offer one for recent operations, often semicolon-separated with decimal commas.
  • OFX and QIF: many retail banks offer these for personal finance software. Our OFX guide explains the format.
  • CFONB: business accounts often get CFONB 120 files, a fixed-width banking standard used by accounting software.
  • Online banks: Qonto and Shine export CSV and give monthly PDF relevés.

For past years, closed accounts, or a client who sends only PDFs, the relevé is what you have.

Software used in France

Experts-comptables and small businesses mostly use Pennylane, Cegid, EBP and Sage. Most accept a CSV with date, libellé and montant (or débit and crédit) through their bank import. If one asks for OFX, download OFX from BankConv.

What to check when converting

French formats differ from the US defaults many tools assume.

Check What to look for
Decimal comma 1 234,56 uses a space for thousands and a comma for decimals
Date order JJ/MM/AAAA, day first
Débit / Crédit Two columns, not one signed amount
Two dates Date d’opération and date de valeur
Currency EUR; card payments abroad show the converted euro amount

If you open a CSV in Excel set to English, decimal commas can turn into text. Import it through Data > From Text/CSV and choose French as the locale. Or download Excel directly.

For BNP Paribas download steps, see the BNP Paribas page.

After converting, check the totals yourself: ancien solde + crédits − débits should equal the nouveau solde. Prices are in USD on the pricing page.

France bank statement questions

Can I convert a relevé bancaire PDF to Excel?

Yes. Upload the relevé PDF and download Excel, CSV or Google Sheets. Check that amounts written as 1 234,56 are numbers in your spreadsheet before you total them.

Does BankConv produce CFONB or OFX files?

OFX, yes; CFONB, no. BankConv exports Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, OFX and QFX. For software that only reads CFONB, import a CSV instead where it allows.

Which date should I use, date d'opération or date de valeur?

Most accountants book on the date d'opération. The date de valeur affects interest and can differ by a few days.
