Convert Canadian bank statements to Excel or CSV
Canadian banks usually let you download recent transactions as CSV or QFX, while older periods exist only as PDF e-statements. BankConv converts those PDFs into Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, OFX or QFX, one row per transaction, ready for QuickBooks, Xero, Quicken or a spreadsheet.

How Canadian bank statements work
Canadian online banking usually splits records in two. Recent transactions can be downloaded, often as CSV or QFX for Quicken and QuickBooks. Past months are kept as PDF e-statements.
- Download limits: banks often cap the transaction download at a few months to a couple of years.
- E-statements: once you switch to paperless, the monthly PDF is the official record and the one accountants ask for.
- Business accounts: these may sit in separate business banking portals with their own export options.
Software Canadians import into
QuickBooks Online is the most common choice, followed by Xero, Wave and Sage 50. All accept a CSV with date, description and amount; see importing into QuickBooks. If your software prefers OFX, download OFX from BankConv; our OFX guide explains the format.
What to check when converting
Date and number formats vary more in Canada than in the US.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Date order | Banks print MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD. Confirm with a date after the 12th |
| French statements | Dépôts and retraits columns; decimal commas such as 1 234,56 |
| Currency | USD accounts produce USD statements; import them into a USD account |
| Signs | Withdrawals may be negative, in parentheses or in their own column |
After converting, check the totals yourself. Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals should equal the closing balance. Then download Excel for review or CSV for import.

Canada bank statement questions
Do French-language statements from Desjardins or National Bank convert?
Yes. BankConv reads the transaction table whatever the language. Check that amounts written as 1 234,56 came through as numbers in your spreadsheet.
Can I import the result into QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Download CSV or OFX and upload it to the bank account in QuickBooks Online. A CSV needs date, description and amount mapped; OFX needs no mapping. BankConv does not export QBO, which QuickBooks Desktop needs.
I have CAD and USD accounts. Can I convert both?
Yes. Convert each statement separately and import each into the matching account in your software, so the two currencies never mix.
