</OFX>Why convert to CSV
- Imports almost everywhere
- Accounting, budgeting and spreadsheet tools all read CSV. Map the date, description and amount columns once.
- Any month, not just recent ones
- Banks export CSV for recent activity only. BankConv works from the monthly PDF statements, so older periods are covered too.
- Up to 10 at once
- Convert a run of monthly statements in one batch and import them together.
Bank statement CSV import checklist
Most failed imports come down to the same handful of problems. Check these before you upload the CSV.
- 1One header row only, in the first line of the file.
- 2One date format for the whole file, and you know which one it is (DD/MM or MM/DD).
- 3Amounts as plain numbers: no currency symbols, no thousands separators your software rejects.
- 4Money out shown either as negative amounts or in its own debit column, the way your software expects.
- 5No totals or summary rows at the bottom of the file.
- 6If accented names look garbled, open the file as UTF-8 (in Excel: Data → From Text/CSV, File origin UTF-8).
Other ways to get a PDF statement into CSV
There are three common ways to do it. Copy-paste and general PDF table tools work on a short, simple statement; they struggle with the things bank statements are full of.
| Compared on | Bank statement converter | Copy and paste | General PDF table tool (Acrobat export, Tabula) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-page statements | Rows from every page in one file | One page at a time | Usually one table per page, joined by hand |
| Descriptions that wrap onto two lines | Usually kept with their transaction | Become extra rows | Often become extra rows |
| Page headers, subtotals and footers | Mostly left out; check for stray total lines | Land in the data | Often land in the data |
| Password-protected PDFs | Enter the password at upload | Remove the password first | Remove the password first |
| Scanned statements | Read with OCR | Nothing to copy | Most need a separate OCR step |
| Several statements at once | Up to 10 PDFs per batch | One by one | One by one |
Why copy and paste usually fails
- All the fields of a line land in one column, so you split them by hand.
- Descriptions that wrap in the PDF become separate rows with no date or amount.
- Page headers, “balance brought forward” lines and totals end up between transactions.
- Amounts paste as text, so sums and filters ignore them until you convert them.

CSV questions
Is it free to convert a PDF bank statement to CSV?
Yes, for short statements. The first 5 pages of any statement convert free with no signup, and a free account adds 5 pages a day and lets you download the CSV. Longer statements cost from $2.99 each ($2.99 for up to 10 pages, then $0.20 a page), or from $19.00 a month on a yearly plan.
How accurate is the PDF to CSV conversion?
BankConv copies each transaction exactly as the statement prints it, keeping the date, description, amount and running balance. That makes completeness easy to check: the last balance in the CSV should equal the closing balance on the PDF, and the row count should match the statement page by page. Check the free preview before you pay.
Which software can import a bank statement CSV?
QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, Wave, FreshBooks, Zoho Books, YNAB, Excel and Google Sheets all import CSV. Most ask you to match the date, description and amount columns once.
Why doesn't my bank give me a CSV?
Most banks offer CSV only for recent activity. Older months exist only as monthly PDF statements, which is what BankConv converts.
Is CSV better than Excel?
CSV is better for importing into other software. Excel is better if you want to read, total or format the data yourself.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF statement to CSV?
Yes. Enter the PDF password when the converter asks for it; it is used to open the file. Copy-paste and most PDF table tools need the password removed first.
Can I convert a scanned bank statement to CSV?
Yes. Scanned and photographed statements are read with OCR. Check the amounts closely on faded or skewed pages, and compare the last balance with the closing balance on the statement.
What if my bank isn't listed?
BankConv reads the transaction table on the page rather than relying on a list of banks, so statements from most banks convert. Run the free preview first to check the rows before you pay.
Can I convert several statements to CSV at once?
Yes. Upload up to 10 PDFs in one batch, each up to 30 MB, for example a year of monthly statements.

Your PDF and its converted files are deleted automatically. Account owners can choose 48 or 72 hours instead.
Read only to extract transactions
Your statement is read (with OCR for scans) to pull out the transaction rows you download.
Encrypted in transit

No bank login
BankConv works from the PDF you download, never from a connection to your bank.
