Convert Barclays statements to Excel or CSV

Barclays doesn't offer past statements as CSV. In Online Banking on a computer you can usually export recent transactions as a CSV file; for anything older, download the monthly PDF statement and convert it in BankConv. You get one row per transaction with date, description, money out, money in and balance, as CSV, Excel or Google Sheets.

Download your Barclays statement

  1. 1.Sign in to Barclays Online Banking (bank.barclays.co.uk) or the Barclays app.
  2. 2.Select the account, then look for Statements (sometimes shown as Statements and documents).
  3. 3.Pick the statement month and download or save the PDF.
  4. 4.Repeat for each month you need.

Do you need to convert at all?

Barclays Online Banking usually has an export option for the transaction list, with CSV as the spreadsheet format. Some account views also offer money-software formats such as OFX or QIF.

The export covers recent transactions only, and is usually available in Online Banking on a computer rather than the Barclays app. Past statements are PDF only.

What to know about Barclays PDFs

Dates show day and month only
Transaction lines usually print the date as day and short month (for example 4 Jan), and often only on the first transaction of each day. If the export leaves the date blank on the rows below, fill it down from the row above (steps further down this page). The year comes from the statement period, so check rows on a December–January statement.
Money out and money in are separate columns
Barclays lists debits under Money out and credits under Money in, with no minus signs. Keep them as two columns, or make one signed Amount column in your spreadsheet (money in minus money out) before you import anywhere.
Balance isn't on every line
The balance usually appears only after the last transaction of a day, and the statement opens with a Start balance line. Blank balance cells are normal, not missing data.

How to download Barclays statements in CSV

There are two routes, and which one you need depends on how far back you’re going.

  1. Recent transactions: in Barclays Online Banking on a computer, open the account and look for an export or download option above the transaction list. Choose CSV and a date range.
  2. Past statements: go to Statements, download the PDF for each month, and convert it. Upload the PDFs to BankConv, check the rows, and export CSV or Excel.

The PDF route is also the one to use when an accountant or lender asks for full statements. The statement shows the opening and closing balance, which the export doesn’t.

What to check after converting

Barclays statements are clean, text-based PDFs, so they convert well. Still, check three things before you import:

  • Totals: add up Money out and Money in and compare them with the statement summary on page one.
  • Dates: if any dates are blank, fill them down (steps below), and confirm the year on early-January rows.
  • Balance: the last balance should match the closing balance on the PDF.

How to fill blank dates down in Excel

If the export leaves dates blank under the first row of a day, fill them down before you import. Excel does it for the whole column in one go.

  1. Select the date column, from the first transaction to the last.
  2. Go to Home > Find & Select > Go To Special, choose Blanks and click OK.
  3. Type =, then press the up arrow key to point at the cell above.
  4. Press Ctrl+Enter to fill every selected blank cell.
  5. Copy the column, then paste it back as values so the dates stay fixed if you sort.

For QuickBooks, see importing into QuickBooks. For Xero, follow how to import a bank statement into Xero. If your software wants OFX instead, download OFX from BankConv instead of CSV. Files are deleted after 24 hours; see security.

Barclays statement questions

Can I download a Barclays statement in CSV?

Not as a statement. Barclays Online Banking usually lets you export recent transactions as CSV, but statements for past months come as PDF only. Convert the PDF in BankConv to get the same months as CSV or Excel.

How do I download Barclays statements in CSV for older months?

Download each monthly PDF from the Statements section of Online Banking, then upload up to 10 at a time to BankConv and export CSV. Your first 5 pages convert free.

Why does my Barclays CSV have blank dates or balances?

Barclays prints the date once per day and the balance after the day's last transaction. If your software needs a date on every row, fill the blank dates down in Excel with Go To Special > Blanks, as described on this page.
