Convert Australian bank statements to Excel or CSV
Australian banks usually let you export recent transactions as CSV or OFX, but archived statements are PDF only. BankConv converts those PDFs into Excel, CSV or Google Sheets, one row per transaction, ready for Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or a BAS workpaper.

How Australian bank statements work
Australian internet banking usually offers transaction exports as CSV, and often OFX or QIF, for a recent window. Statements for past periods are kept as PDFs.
- Exports: good for the current quarter. The available range differs by bank and account type.
- PDF statements: the record for older periods, closed accounts and anything an accountant or lender requests.
- Bank CSV quirks: some bank CSVs have no header row or combine debits and credits in one signed column.
Software used in Australia
Xero and MYOB are the most common, with QuickBooks Online close behind. All accept a CSV with date, description and amount. For Xero, follow how to import a bank statement into Xero. The steps in importing into QuickBooks map the same way in MYOB. If a tool requires OFX, download OFX from BankConv instead of CSV.
What to check when converting
Australian statements are day first and often print debit and credit columns.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Date order | DD/MM/YYYY. US-set software reads 03/04 as 4 March |
| Signs | Debits may be negative, marked DR or in their own column |
| Opening line | An opening balance row is not a transaction |
| GST | Statements don’t split GST; code it in your software |
After converting, check the totals yourself. Opening balance + credits − debits should equal the closing balance. Then download Excel to review it or CSV to import it.

Australia bank statement questions
Why convert a PDF when my bank exports CSV?
The export usually covers a limited recent period. For older quarters, closed accounts or statements a client sends you, the PDF statement is what you have.
Can I import the converted file into Xero or MYOB?
Yes. Download CSV from BankConv and use the bank statement import in Xero or MYOB, mapping date, description and amount. BankConv does not produce Xero- or MYOB-specific files.
Does BankConv handle statements in AUD only?
It converts whatever the statement shows. Foreign-currency accounts produce rows in that currency, so import them into a matching account.
