Convert ANZ statements to Excel or CSV
ANZ's own transaction export usually reaches back about two years, so older periods only exist as PDF statements in Internet Banking or the ANZ App. BankConv turns those PDFs into Excel, CSV or Google Sheets, keeping Withdrawals and Deposits as separate columns. Dates print without a year, so check rows near 1 January or 30 June.
Updated
Download your ANZ statement
- 1.Log on to ANZ Internet Banking (anz.com.au) or the ANZ App.
- 2.Look for View statements (in Internet Banking, often under the account or the statements and documents area).
- 3.Choose the account and the statement period, then select Download to open the PDF.
- 4.Save each PDF.
Do you need to convert at all?
ANZ Internet Banking usually lets you export the transaction list from the account's transactions view, with CSV and formats for money and accounting software chosen from a software package list.
The export usually covers about the last two years, from Internet Banking on a computer. ANZ Plus accounts work differently. Older periods are PDF statements only.
ANZ export formats: CSV, OFX, QIF, QBO
What to know about ANZ PDFs
- Withdrawals and deposits in separate columns
- ANZ statements usually list money out under Withdrawals ($) and money in under Deposits ($), with no minus signs. Keep both columns, or build one signed Amount column (deposits minus withdrawals) before importing.
- Dates without a year
- Transaction dates usually print as day and short month, such as 03 MAR. The year comes from the statement period, so check rows on statements that cross 1 January or the end of the financial year.
- Opening balance and totals rows
- The table usually starts with an Opening Balance line and ends with totals and a closing balance. Leave these out when you sum withdrawals and deposits, and use them to check the result.
Converting ANZ statements
ANZ statements downloaded from Internet Banking are usually text-based PDFs, and each transaction ends up as its own row. Use them when you need periods older than the export window, or a full statement for an accountant.
- Download the PDF statements from ANZ Internet Banking or the ANZ App.
- Upload them to BankConv.
- Check the rows, then export CSV, Excel or Google Sheets.
If you bank with ANZ Plus, the statement and export options can differ from classic Internet Banking. The PDF statement still converts the same way.
What to check before you import
The opening balance, totals and closing balance on the PDF give you everything you need to check the conversion yourself.
- Sum Withdrawals and Deposits, excluding the opening and totals lines, and compare with the statement totals.
- Check that the last balance matches the closing balance.
- Confirm the year on rows near 1 January or 30 June.
Australian dates are day first. Set Excel or your accounting software to DD/MM/YYYY before importing, or 03/04 may become 4 March. For Xero, follow how to import a bank statement into Xero. For other Australian banks, see Australian bank statements.

ANZ statement questions
Can I export ANZ transactions to CSV?
Usually yes, for recent transactions, from the transactions view in ANZ Internet Banking on a computer. For older periods, download the PDF statements and convert them in BankConv.
How do I get ANZ statements into Xero?
Convert the PDF statements to CSV in BankConv, then use Xero's bank statement import. Set the date format to day first before importing.
Does this work for ANZ business account statements?
Yes. Business statements use a similar transaction table, often with more pages. BankConv reads the table on the page, so they convert the same way.
