Convert a bank statement to QFX

Upload the PDF statement, check the rows, and download a .qfx file, the version of OFX that Quicken imports. Use it for months your bank no longer lets you download, or for a bank that only gives you PDF statements.

How to convert a PDF bank statement to QFX

  1. 1.Download the statement as a PDF from your online banking.
  2. 2.Drop the PDF into the converter on this page. Enter the password if the PDF asks for one.
  3. 3.Check the rows in the preview against the PDF. The first 5 pages are free.
  4. 4.Choose QFX, download the file and import it into Quicken.

Why convert to QFX

Made for Quicken
QFX is OFX with the Intuit sign-on field Quicken looks for. The transactions inside are the same as in the OFX file.
Older months too
Banks offer QFX downloads for recent activity only. BankConv works from the monthly PDF statements, so older periods are covered.
Same IDs every time
Each transaction carries an ID that stays the same if you export the same statement again, which helps Quicken spot rows it already has.

Before you import a QFX file into Quicken

A few checks save you from cleaning up a Quicken register afterwards.

  1. 1Back up your Quicken data file first, so you can undo the import if it lands in the wrong account.
  2. 2Import into the account the statement belongs to, and only the dates that are not already in the register.
  3. 3In Quicken for Windows, the import is under File → File Import → Web Connect (.QFX) File. On a Mac, use File → Import → Bank or Brokerage File.
  4. 4Accept or match the downloaded transactions in the review list, then compare the register balance with the closing balance on the PDF.
  5. 5If your software is not Quicken, download OFX instead: it is the same data without the Intuit field.

QFX questions

What is the difference between QFX and OFX?

A QFX file is an OFX file with an extra Intuit field in the sign-on block that Quicken reads. The account and transaction data are identical, so pick QFX for Quicken and OFX for everything else.

Is it free to convert a bank statement to QFX?

Yes, for short statements. The first 5 pages convert free with no signup, and a free account lets you download the file and adds 5 free pages a day. Longer statements cost from $2.99 each ($2.99 for up to 10 pages, then $0.20 a page), or from $19.00 a month on a yearly plan.

Can QuickBooks import a QFX file?

QuickBooks Online accepts QFX through Upload from file, as it does OFX and CSV. QuickBooks Desktop needs a .QBO Web Connect file, which BankConv does not produce.

What if BankConv says it cannot make a QFX file?

That happens when it cannot tell which column holds the dates or the amounts, or which currency the statement uses. The message says which. Download CSV instead, which always works.

Your statement's data

  • Deleted after 24 hours

Your PDF and its converted files are deleted automatically. Account owners can choose 48 or 72 hours instead.

  • Read only to extract transactions

Your statement is read (with OCR for scans) to pull out the transaction rows you download.

  • Encrypted in transit

Uploads and downloads use HTTPS (TLS).

  • Passwords never stored

The password of a protected PDF is used once to open the file.

  • No bank login

BankConv works from the PDF you download, never from a connection to your bank.
