Convert Westpac statements to Excel or CSV

Westpac's transaction export usually works only in Online Banking on a computer, not the app, and the history it reaches is limited. Statements go back about seven years as PDF eStatements under Overview, then Statements. Upload those PDFs to BankConv to get Excel, CSV or Google Sheets, with debits and credits in separate columns and day-first dates to watch.

Do you need to convert at all?

Westpac Online Banking on a computer usually has a transaction export, with CSV and formats for accounting and money software such as OFX, QIF and QBO.

The export is usually desktop-only, not in the Westpac app, and the history it reaches is limited. Statements, up to about 7 years back, are PDF only.

What to know about Westpac PDFs

Day-first dates
Dates print day first (for example 03/03/26). Excel set to US format may read 03/04 as 4 March, or leave the cell as text. Set the import to DD/MM/YY before you open the CSV.
Debit and credit columns, no signs
Money out sits under Debit and money in under Credit, both as positive numbers. Keep the two columns, or make one signed Amount column (credit minus debit) for software that needs it.
Opening and closing balance lines
The transaction table usually starts with an opening balance line and ends with a closing balance. Exclude them when you sum debits and credits, then use them to check the totals.

Converting Westpac eStatements

Westpac eStatements are usually text-based PDFs, which means each transaction lands on its own row. Use them for periods the transaction export doesn’t reach, or when an accountant wants full statements for a financial year.

  1. Download the PDF eStatements from Overview, then Statements.
  2. Upload them to BankConv.
  3. Check the rows, then export Excel, CSV or Google Sheets.

Export or PDF: which to use

The export is quicker for recent activity. The PDF is the only option for older periods, and it carries the opening and closing balances you need to check your work.

A full financial year or older months PDF eStatements, converted
Proof for a lender or accountant PDF eStatements

What to check

  • Sum Debit and Credit, excluding the balance lines, and compare with the statement.
  • Confirm the last row’s balance equals the closing balance.
  • Check that dates came through day first.
