Remove the password from a bank statement PDF

Choose the protected PDF, type the password your bank gave you, and download a copy that opens without it. The file is unlocked in your browser: neither the PDF nor the password is sent anywhere.

Runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

2 · Unlock it

Why unlock a statement?

  • Sharing it. Your accountant, lender or landlord can open it without you sending the password separately.
  • Software that can’t ask for a password. Many document tools and email scanners skip protected PDFs.
  • Keeping the password to yourself. Unlock the file on your own computer, then upload the copy to a converter instead of typing the password into its site.

Not sure of the password? The bank pages for SBI, HDFC, ICICI and Axis list the formats we could confirm.

The unlocked copy holds the same personal details as the original, so store it as carefully. More on that in how BankConv handles statements.

Questions

Can this open a PDF if I don’t know the password?

No. You need the password the bank gave you. The tool uses it to open the file, then saves a copy without the password. It does not guess or crack passwords.

What is the password for my bank statement?

It depends on the bank, and it is usually explained in the email or SMS that came with the statement. Common patterns combine part of your name, your date of birth, your customer ID or digits of your phone number. Our bank pages list the formats we could confirm, for example SBI, HDFC, ICICI and Axis.

Is my PDF or password uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and saved by JavaScript in this page. The file and the password never leave your browser.

Will the unlocked PDF look the same?

The pages, text and images are copied as they are, so the statement looks and reads the same and its text can still be selected. Bookmarks and form fields are not carried over.

My PDF opens without a password but won’t let me copy or print.

That file has an owner password that only sets restrictions. Open it here without typing a password and the copy you download has no restrictions.

Do I need to unlock a statement before converting it with BankConv?

No. BankConv asks for the password when you upload a protected PDF. Unlocking it first is an option if you would rather not type the password into any website.
