Questions
Why won’t my accounting software accept the dates in my bank CSV?
Importers expect one date format for the whole file, usually the one you pick on the import screen. Bank exports often print “03 SEP” with no year, a month name, or a day-first date that a US importer reads as month-first. Rewriting the column into one format fixes it.
What happens to dates with no year?
They get the statement year you set. If the statement runs from December into January, tick “Statement crosses into a new year” and every date after the year turns over gets the next year.
Some rows have no date at all.
Many statements print the date only on the first transaction of each day. Tick “Fill blank dates from the row above” and those rows get the date of the transaction before them.
How does it tell 03/09 (3 September) from 03/09 (March 9)?
If any date in the column has a first number over 12, it must be day-first; if the second number is over 12, it must be month-first. When every date is ambiguous, it assumes month-first, so check the detected order and change it if your bank is outside the US.
Does it change anything else in the file?
No. Only the date column is rewritten. Every other column is kept as it was, and the file is saved as a comma-separated CSV.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The CSV is read and rewritten by JavaScript in this page.
