Convert Starling Bank statements to Excel or CSV
If you have the Starling app, you usually don't need a converter. Starling lets you export statements as CSV or PDF for any date range, back to the day the account opened. Convert the PDF only when that's all you have, for example statements a client or applicant sent you.
Updated
Download your Starling Bank statement
- 1.Open the Starling app and tap the account menu (usually the icon at the top right).
- 2.Tap Statements, then Statement history.
- 3.Choose the date range, then pick PDF (or CSV if you want a spreadsheet directly).
- 4.Save or share the file. To convert PDFs, upload up to 10 in one BankConv batch.
Do you need to convert at all?
The Starling app and Online Bank export statements as CSV or PDF for any date range you choose. Starling says its CSV works with accounting software such as Xero and FreeAgent.
You need access to the account. Starling doesn't post paper statements, and someone who only receives the PDF can't export the CSV.

What to know about Starling Bank PDFs
- Spaces transfers appear as transactions
- Moving money into or out of a Space (Starling's savings pots) usually shows up as its own line. They are transfers between your own balances, so mark them before you total income or spending.
- In and Out are separate columns
- Starling's PDF statement usually splits money in and money out into two columns, both as positive numbers. The CSV export usually uses one signed amount instead. If you combine the two, make one signed Amount column first.
- A Type column for every payment
- Each line usually carries a payment type, such as Faster Payment, Direct Debit or Contactless. Keep it; it makes it easy to find all direct debits or all card spending.
When to convert a Starling PDF
Starling customers can usually skip conversion. The app exports CSV for any range, straight into a spreadsheet or accounting software.
Converting the PDF is useful when the PDF is what you were given:
- Bookkeepers: a sole trader sends a year of Starling statements as one PDF, and you need the rows in Excel or CSV.
- Lenders and letting agents: an applicant shares a PDF, and you want to total salary or rent lines.
- Saved records: PDFs kept for a tax return, where the account has since closed.
Upload the PDF to BankConv, check the rows and export. A year of statements can run to many pages; your first 5 pages convert free, and pricing covers the rest.
What to check after converting
Starling’s PDF statements are normally text-based, not scans. Check these before you import:
- Running balance: each balance should equal the previous balance plus In minus Out.
- Spaces: mark transfers to and from Spaces so they don’t count as spending.
- Range: confirm the first and last dates cover the period you asked for.
For Xero, follow how to import a bank statement into Xero. For other UK banks, see UK bank statements.

Starling Bank statement questions
Can I download Starling statements as CSV?
Yes. In the Starling app, go to Statements, then Statement history, pick a date range and choose CSV. You only need BankConv when you have the PDF but not the account.
Why convert a Starling PDF if Starling has CSV?
Accountants, lenders and letting agents usually receive Starling statements as PDFs. Converting the PDF gives them the rows without going back to the account holder.
How far back do Starling statements go?
Starling lets you pick any range back to the day the account opened. That makes it easy to request one PDF for a whole year rather than twelve.
