Convert Nationwide statements to Excel or CSV

Nationwide lets you download current account and savings statements as PDFs for the last 36 months, from Documents in the Internet Bank or My Documents in the app. Upload the PDFs to BankConv and you get one row per transaction with date, description, money out, money in and balance, as Excel, CSV or Google Sheets.

Download your Nationwide statement

  1. 1.Log in to the Nationwide Internet Bank (nationwide.co.uk) or the Nationwide app.
  2. 2.In the Internet Bank, choose the Documents tab, then Statements. In the app, go to My Documents.

  4. 4.Repeat for each statement.

Do you need to convert at all?

The Internet Bank usually lets you download the transactions on screen as a file, with CSV as the spreadsheet option.

The transaction download covers recent activity only, from the Internet Bank rather than the app. Statements are PDFs, available online for the last 36 months.

What to know about Nationwide PDFs

Only 36 months online
Nationwide keeps current account, savings and credit card statements online for the last 36 months. Download what you need for a tax return or mortgage application before it drops out of the window; older copies have to be requested.
The £ sign can break the CSV export
The Internet Bank's CSV export puts a £ sign on amounts. Some versions of Excel show it as a stray character, or read the amount as text. Find and replace it before you do any maths, or convert the PDF statement instead.
Money out comes first
Statements usually print the Out column before the In column, both as positive numbers, with a running balance. Check one known payment against the PDF before you build a signed amount column.

How to get Nationwide statements into Excel

Nationwide offers two routes. Use the transaction download for recent activity and the PDF statements for everything else.

  1. Recent activity: in the Internet Bank, open the account, set the date range and use the download option. Pick CSV.
  2. Past statements: choose Documents, then Statements, and save each PDF. Upload them to BankConv and export Excel or CSV.

The PDF route avoids the £ sign problem in the CSV export, and it gives you the documents a lender or accountant actually asks for. You only need to download each statement once, inside the 36-month window.

What to check after converting

Nationwide statements are clean, text-based PDFs. Run these checks before you import:

  • Balance brought forward: the first line is usually the opening balance. Leave it out of your totals.
  • Totals: add up the Out and In columns and compare them with the statement summary.
  • Closing balance: the last balance should match the PDF.
  • Long descriptions: card payments abroad can wrap onto two lines. Check they stayed on one row.

How far back can I get Nationwide statements online?

Nationwide says you can download up to 36 months of statements as PDFs. For anything older, ask Nationwide for copies.

Can I download Nationwide statements in the app?

Yes. Nationwide says current account, savings and credit card statements from the last 36 months are in My Documents in the app.
